Fungal Infection & Causes

According to dermatologists, recently there has been an alarming increase in the number of fungal infections in both young and old. The fungus which is called ‘Tinea corporis’ is a common fungus which is present in most of us. Here, what happens is that the fungus is a natural resident but when there is increased sweating or increased friction between the inner thighs, then the fungus gets a place to lodge and start an infection. What makes this worse is that India being a tropical country, people sweat more and everybody is forced to work in the offices wearing formal clothes for a long period of time. This makes it more complex.

Another reason is that people don’t wash their clothes often as they should. So, if you are suspecting a fungal infection or you want to avoid one, make sure that you are changing your clothes daily and wearing freshly laundered clothes every day. Actually, this infection is also called Dhobi Itch because of poorly laundered clothes from the Dhobi.

The next important thing to keep in mind is not to use over the counter creams. Most of the over the counter creams usually given by the pharmacists contain steroids. And when you have a steroid or a combination of a cream which has a steroid, the fungus is not been destroyed but only the symptom is being rid the cream. Instead, if you think that you have a fungal infection, do meet a dermatologist. The dermatologist can give you an anti-fungal cream and cure off the infection. It is a very easy treatment. So, please speak to your dermatologist today.
